Human Factors Consultant - Farnham

The Opportunity

Atkins is one of the leading Human Factors consultancies in the UK. We require additional Human Factors expertise to expand our Human Factors capability and support our clients on a diverse range of Defence projects covering the Air, Land, Marine, C4ISTAR and Nuclear sectors.

The Defence Systems business is a progressive and rapidly expanding part of Atkins. We plan, design and enable complex defence programmes and successfully deliver independent programme management and high-end systems engineering services to the MoD and the Defence industry at all stages of the acquisition cycle.

We are looking for people who like the challenge of working in multi-disciplinary teams on major systems engineering programmes. Opportunities include working on a number high profile projects in all Defence domains and also on non-Defence projects in other parts of the Atkins business. In addition to Defence work, Atkins has a strong background in providing consultancy and R&D support to high hazard industries such as Rail, Nuclear and Oil & Gas.

This role is based in our Farnham office, howeve the majority of workwill be based on our client site in Aldermaston.

Although our positions are full time there may be part time opportunities and flexibility in working hours for the right candidate

The requirements

A Degree or equivalent in ergonomics or a related appropriate field, such as psychology, engineering and industrial design would be desirable
Professional Chartership or Registered status or willing work towards this
Technical expertise in a number of the following areas is essential; User Interface Design (HCI/HMI), workspace design, anthropometrics, task analysis, allocation of function, workload analysis, manpower analysis, human reliability assessment, safety, training, systems engineering, human factors requirements elicitation, occupational psychology, organisational psychology, including organisational change, influencing and behavioural safety
Knowledge and experience of applying Human Factors Integration processes and standards is essential
Experience in the application of Human Factors tools and techniques to support technical programmes either within industry, consultancy or research
Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills with a practical and pragmatic approach to problem solving
Highly motivated, with the initiative to take on work independently
Should demonstrate a positive attitude and have the ability to work with other disciplines and be part of a multidisciplinary team
Defence experience in one or more of the following areas; NEC/C4ISTAR, Land, Sea or Air environments although we will consider candidates with experience in other engineering industries such as Transport, Nuclear and Oil & Gas.
Experience of using CAD packages and human simulation
Experience of working in multi-discipline teams and dealing with multiple stakeholders and clients.

Some work outside normal office hours may be necessary. Travel to and from client sites and/or temporary secondment to client's offices may also be required in both the UK and Overseas
